These european antique golf club and ball come from an early variation of golf game called 'chole' (jeu de crosse en plaine), which was played for over 500 years in northern France and Belgium.
The game was played in the fields, after harvest, mainly from October to March.
The game of Chloe was to play the ball from a starting point until it hit a goal - usually a post (a board 18 to 20cm broad and 1m80 to 2m long). The player started hitting three shots. Then his competitor "de-choled" : he shot the ball far from the goal or put it in a bad lie - making the next shot difficult to play.
